About Us

Laura Brook

Humanitarian Lead

Following my BA in Philosophy, my life goals have focussed on humanitarian issues and international development. Soon after my first trip around the world I decided to try and find a way to assist others to improve their individual and cultural development wherever possible. My masters degree in Disaster Management was a step in that direction and enabled me to meet my business partner Vanessa. Together Vanessa and I have shaped the objectives of HazAware to use our skills to assist community resilience in times of need.

My working life has focussed largely on project development for a private SME for almost 6 years. I also have past experience in running my own small business, working for an international development charity and numerous voluntary placements involving working closely with vulnerable people. Through HazAware I intend to continue working with vulnerable people around the world.

Environmental Lead

If I’m not surrounded with rocks I am generally not happy – that was the general motivation for doing a BSc in Geology and Geography and then completing an MSc in Disaster Management, researching specifically risk perception to volcanic risks in Napoli. I then spent nearly 4 years working with the Ministry of Defence as an Environmental Advisor on a range of projects and activities. I currently work for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs promoting the use of geography within policy.

Due to a passion in aiding communities understand their environment and adapt and mitigate its effect on them, I was propelled to co-start this Organisation. I hope to continue to drive forward environmental education to at-risk communities and also hope to see many more rocks!
